~ From Julia ~
Coop was awake first. The wind was strong and he was wanting to make sure the anchor held. Didn’t want us blown up against the rocks. We sat together, looked over charts and talked about where we wanted to go next. We’d planned to meet up with Ron and his family but several members got sick. Helen might be ready to cruise on Saturday or maybe Friday. Nate gave Ron a call while we were at the table in the cabin and he gave us lots of ideas of good places to tuck into. We’d like to see Prideaux Haven but will probably find another place to anchor.

I made us some coffee. We left Teakerne Arm with lots of crazy wind coming down from this way. We would cook breakfast of sausage, grits and eggs as we motor sailed down. We came down perfectly gorgeous passages… best yet. We always heard so much about Prideaux Haven. I think from Don Rooks and his family and others. Julie said to skip it, but we wanted to see it for ourselves.

Turns out that Prideaux Haven was indeed full of boats. While fun to see we didn’t really want to stay there.

After hurriedly dropping anchor in a corner squished by large white boats, we pulled it up and continued on to a place Julie recommended. She and Dick had found this to be one of their favorites. They referred to it as Haystack Rock – rumors are it’s Flea Island in The Curve of Time. It was about 5pm when we anchored. We got settled and were blown away; it is a very sweet place, surrounded by rocks and small islets nearby; mountains peeking over and 340 degrees of no-white-boat views. Getting anchored here made the three of us ready to stay awhile.

Dinner of sausages & beans on quesadillas and green salad. Thanks Nate. We hopped around in Grasshopper to check different bays, coves and boats. Roffey has rock islands and one nearby has about 10 oyster catchers there, maybe nesting, but definitely screeching as they fly and their long red beaks and red feet stick out against their black feathers. Fun birds to watch.

As night was closing we got in a couple games of Yahtzee. Coop’s rolled the most Yahtzees so far. Then we looked again at charts and Coop and Nate talked about slack tide, when and where to cross. Yaculta Rapids came up, Seymour Narrows, Arran Passage and other possibilities. I look forward to seeing Johnstone Strait because that is where they went on R2AK. I’m also voting for staying right here in this lovely spot for a couple days.
