Back To Desolation | Day 39 | 8.1.22

Monday Canadian Holiday

We woke to a cooler morning that soon turned warm. Crow was readied to go. Nate went over to his friends boat to help her with her anchor winch and they were soon joined by another friend from Morning Star, Leighton. Nate had been over to Linda and Leighton’s boat the evening before to see Morning Star and Nate said it was amazing.

Morning Star

We took off and went first to Manson’s Landing. Oceanna, Coop and I rowed to the dock and walked to see the Co-op Store and Grocery store. Because of the holiday the Co-op was closed. Oceanna and Coop carried everything. I walked with my stick. It was enough for me to do the walk. When we got to the dock there was a commotion because a boat had lost it’s anchor light when a sea plane came into the piling on the dock… the wind had picked up. The tip of the left wing had been dinged. Later on our way out we saw the same plane take off. We took two trips in Sweetpea to get all the groceries and beverages to the Crow.

Groceries stowed and we prepared for a good sail. We headed out towards Mittlenatch Island. Our destination was to Grace Harbor on Gifford Island. Lots of wind for a while and it was so fun and Crow sailed beautifully. Nate and Coop did a great job. Oceanna and I started out on deck… til things got a bit ‘wild’ and Coop thought we should go into the pilot house. I took a little video of the seas through the windows. We came down a gorgeous channel with mountains in distance… always looking for whales.

We went around the back of Hernando to the right. I’ll have to see the chart to recall the names but we sailed to the edge of the mainland. The bay we anchored in is very protected and plenty full (not plentiful). We are tucked into the back and stern tied. We enjoyed hanging.

Dinner was an amazing chicken, beans, veggie soup. Oceanna has a way of incorporating whatever there is into the meal, including a little juice from the olive jar. We ate up top and watched the sunset. Nate took a time lapsed video but it hardly did it justice. After that the mosquitoes came out to feed, on us! We’ve really been lucky on our trip that we haven’t been attacked by swarms of anything. We went below. Coop rinsed the dishes in sea water, they would be washed tomorrow. Then 3 games of Mexican Train and a sweet Goodnight!
